Sorting materials into group

Q.1. What do we mean by the term sorting?
Ans. Similarities help us to arrange things in the same group. Differences help us to arrange things into separate things.
This systematic arrangement of things on the basis of certain similarities or differences is called sorting or classification.

Q.2. Find the odd one out from the following:
          (a) Car, Magnet, Coin, Baby, Shoes.
(b)Laddu, Globe, Samosa, Sun, Orange.
Ans. (a) Chair, Bed, Table and Cupboard are non-living objects whereas baby is a living object. So, the odd one is baby.
(b) Laddu, Globe, Sun and Orange are Spherical objects, whereas Samosa is nearly conical shaped object. So, the odd one is Samosa.

Q.3. What are the advantages of sorting or classification?
Ans. The advantages of sorting or classification are:
  •  The classification of objects into groups makes it easier to locate them and work with them.
  • The classification of objects into groups helps in understanding them.
